This beautiful 32 ft. double wooden rowing scull was hand crafted by Spartan Racing Boats in England in approximately 1938. The hull is made of beautiful mahogany and weighs just 67 pounds according to my scale. The rigging weighs an additional 15 pounds. It comes with a 16 foot wooden cradle to carry it on top of most roof racks.
The hull has a bulkhead which allows it to be unbolted into two pieces for storage. We purchased it two years ago from an antique store in Snohomish. We took rowing lessons before purchasing it and got advice from an expert on wooden rowing sculls but have never actually used it.
Unfortunately, I think that I laid out the rigging backwards for the pictures. The rigging and the seats are going to need some work and the boat should probably have a fresh coat of marine varnish applied before putting it in the water. I was thinking about covering the ends with fabric but thought whoever purchased it would want to inspect the wooden framework and interior wood.
I will try to add some pictures of the underside of the absolutely gorgeous hull so please hit the refresh button on your browser tomorrow if you want to see them. This is a very rare and beautiful item that is lighter than most modern double rowing sculls.
We are planning on moving soon and hoping only to get part of our money back.
